Not all regions are rich in water to utilize electrolysis, or have excess renewable energy to be a cheap, zero-emission power source for production. For hydrogen to become easily available and cost-effective, we need to rely on a variety of production methods.
One of the most promising options for producing carbon free hydrogen is combining natural gas reforming with carbon capture technology. In this process, the carbon dioxide by-product will be captured, transported, and stored in deep geologic formations.
When hydrogen is produced from low carbon and renewable resources, such as biomethane, in conjunction with carbon capture and storage technology the result is fully renewable green hydrogen.
