Safety Is Our Top Priority

At BayoTech, safety is one of our core missions. This applies to all areas of our business, from our hydrogen hubs to transport and storage of high-pressure gases. Our dedication to safe operations ensures the production of hydrogen is conducted responsibility and with the utmost consideration for safety and environmental protection.

Our equipment meets all relevant codes and standards for safe operation.

We train local fire, police, and emergency responders to respond to incidents.

An Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) minimizes risks to people and the environment..

A local uninterruptible power supply ensures continued power to critical components during outages.

Constant monitoring of the production hub by personnel and technology.

We use federally compliant high-pressure cylinders for safe storage and transport.

An emergency shutdown procedure is in place for quick response.

Enhanced pressure testing and leak detection/prevention measures are implemented.

We provide comprehensive operational and safety training for all staff.

Regular inspections ensure ongoing safety and compliance.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Hydrogen

Our facility will produce 2 tons per day of low-carbon hydrogen, kickstarting the local hydrogen ecosystem. This reliable hydrogen supply will support zero-emission mobility and power generation, aiding in the decarbonization of the community by displacing diesel equipment.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, which produce zero tailpipe emissions, significantly reduce the carbon footprint of transportation. Displacing diesel vehicles, especially in heavy-duty transportation, will cut down pollutants like NOx and particulate matter, leading to cleaner air and improved public health.

Our facility will help meet California’s air quality and climate goals, producing measurable benefits for the community. As lead agency, the Port of Stockton, conducted a review of the environmental impact of the project, as required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). We are committed to the mitigation measures developed and detailed during the CEQA process. This includes using renewable natural gas, renewable electricity and zero-emission vehicles. We are also committed to adhering to robust monitoring and accountability.

We Believe in the Power of Community

Embracing hydrogen supports environmental, economic, and health benefits, making it a valuable asset for the local community. BayoTech is dedicated to being a good neighbor in every community we enter. Our community engagement efforts focus on three pillars:

Job Creation

Employing local people and resources for the construction, operation and maintenance of the facility.

Education

Promoting workforce development, providing STEM education in local schools, and training first responders.

Sustainability

Utilizing renewable energy at our facility, using zero-emission trucks and funding local environmental programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our commitment is to provide information regarding our project and its potential impact and benefits to the community. Here we address the frequently asked questions about our project.

The Stockton BayoGaaS Hydrogen Hub will produce high-pressure, fuel cell-grade hydrogen.

Hydrogen is produced using steam methane reforming (SMR), where methane from natural gas is heated with steam and a catalyst. BayoTech’s patented technology, the bayonet nested flow reactor, enhances efficiency by using heat more effectively than traditional methods. This results in less feedstock usage, lower carbon emissions, and reduced production costs for the same amount of hydrogen.

The hydrogen produced at this facility is used in industrial processes and fuel cells for electricity generation and vehicle power. It is sold to industrial gas suppliers, bus and truck fleet operators, fuel cell equipment manufacturers, and industrial hydrogen users.

The BayoGaaS Hydrogen Hub at the Port of Stockton is strategically located to serve key customers in  San Joaquin County. It’s a key transportation corridor and this fuel will support the transition to zero-emission fuel cell trucks and buses. Additionally, hydrogen technology is an effective solution for decarbonizing port equipment, with its ability to reduce emissions, optimize energy, reduce noise, and increase energy efficiency while also providing fast refueling and consistent power delivery.

Customers can either pick up hydrogen from the BayoGaaS Hydrogen Hub or have it delivered. BayoTech uses high-pressure, Type III cylinder-based transport trailers, which allow for more compressed gas storage and transport in a smaller footprint than other technologies. This results in higher payloads per trailer, reducing transportation costs, maximizing driver productivity, and lowering emissions.

No, the BayoGaaS Hydrogen Hub in Stockton, California is not a retail fueling station.

Hydrogen is a clean fuel that only produces water when consumed. While upstream processes do result in carbon emissions, BayoTech is undertaking mitigation measures to meet local requirements. These measures include  utilizing renewable natural gas and electricity at our facility, deploying zero-emission trucks, supporting air quality monitoring, and funding programs to reduce the community’s use of natural gas and grid electricity.

Hydrogen can be handled and used safely with proper sensing, handling, and engineering measures. BayoTech prioritizes safety in the production, storage, distribution, and use of hydrogen. The facility is designed to meet all relevant codes and standards to ensure safe operation.

Hydrogen poses minimal environmental risk due to its nontoxic properties and low volatility. In the event of a leak, hydrogen disperses quickly into the atmosphere, reducing the risk of accidental ignition at ground level. BayoTech uses properly designed storage and dispensing systems with leak-tight components optimized for hydrogen containment.

The facility is continuously monitored by personnel and technology. A comprehensive emergency response plan is in place, and local fire, police, and emergency response agencies have been consulted.

Hydrogen is odorless.

Hydrogen vents can be loud due to the high pressure. Consideration is given to the surrounding population, and measures are taken to minimize disruptive noise levels.

The facility’s lighting design includes features like full cut-off light shields and anti-glare lighting to minimize light pollution.
