BayoTech and New Mexico Gas Company Announce Collaborative Agreement to Develop Hydrogen Economy

Albuquerque, NM., (October 8, 2020) – In honor of the 6th annual National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, BayoTech and New Mexico Gas Company (NMGC) are excited to announce a collaborative agreement to explore opportunities to develop New Mexico’s hydrogen economy and establish the state as a hydrogen hub for the US.

As a first step, NMGC has awarded BayoTech a Research and Development grant to support joint exploration of opportunities to expand the use of hydrogen as an energy solution in New Mexico.  Gas service to BayoTech’s Center of Excellence in Albuquerque, New Mexico was recently expanded, enabling BayoTech to more efficiently test existing designs and develop and demonstrate higher capacity hydrogen generators. Future opportunities being explored between NMGC and BayoTech include hydrogen injection into the natural gas grid, hydrogen fueling infrastructure development and piloting carbon capture and sequestration technologies.

“NMGC is an ideal partner in the natural gas utility sector,” said BayoTech Chief Commercial Officer, Stewart Stewart. “They’re setting a great example of the role that gas utilities can play in the developing hydrogen economy. We’re excited for what this collaboration can bring.”

“We are interested in better understanding the potential for hydrogen in our energy mix, and pleased to support and learn from a New Mexico company that is on the leading edge of hydrogen solutions,” said Gerald Weseen, NMGC’s Vice President of Strategy & Business Development.
